Too hot to handle…

1:19 May 27th, 2012 | 2 notes

I was supposed to go to the Jazz festival today but it is just entirely too hot to go anywhere. We didn’t even go to church this morning, which makes this the 3rd Sunday I’ve been home and not gone to church :( If i remember correctly, this is the last day for the festival.. bummer. I should have gone yesterday but I got stuck at a graduation party. It was great at first, but then they had one of those giant video buses with all the video game consoles on it. The people who threw the party did a poor job of warning everyone that the bus would block everyone in the parking area until 9:30, so by the time I received the news, I was already trapped. But rather than moping around, I just got on the bus and played Halo and 2K12. The time flew by.

After I left, I had to make several stops before I got to my intended destination which was a pool party. My friends wanted to be fashionably late and we ended up being so late that the party was shut down not too long after we got there. I saw it coming. It was one of those “aye, we got a pool at a lil mansion but we over here in the hood” type parties. It was insanely crowded. And of course, no one was trying to get in the water. Black folk were too bougie to get their hair wet, and I didn’t feel like being the odd one out who jumps in the pool and enjoys the water all by themselves. It wasn’t my night to be a differenter.

I still love the Lakers, in case any one was wondering…

I was on the verge of a hiatus for the summer but I’ve decided against it. I won’t cover everything from the last entry until now cuz that would be a 17-day long entry. I’ll just touch on what I feel like talking about, I guess.. I’ve decided that this whole thing should be a nice read 5, 10, and 15 years from now so I will not fluff it up with a whole bunch of talk about nothing.

The drive from DC was… long. My cousin was tired because she packed all day and we left that night so after she did about 3 hours, I did the rest of the drive until we were about 100 miles outside of Atlanta. Honestly, I haven’t driven on the freeway at night since the trip. It was just rough lol. And my cousin had this one cd that played in rotation while I was driving, so the songs automatically start playing in my head when I get on the freeway. It’ll probably take me a few more days to get it together haha.

Finally walking in my house and lying in my bed was the biggest sigh of relief I’ve had in a long while. This year was rough, and it’s only gonna get rougher. I got 12-hour clinical rotations next year… on Saturdays… Lord have mercy. But I can already tell that this summer will have me well relaxed and prepared. I literally haven’t had one day so far that I was bored or unhappy. I know it’s only been a little over 2 weeks but everything is really going my way.

I got home on the morning of the 10th and I was at work on the 13th. I wasn’t expecting to be working so soon, but in addition to being relaxing, this summer will also be mighty lucrative. #MoneyTeam lol. That shit is kinda corny but I like it. I like saying it.

If you’ve been reading this blog for a little while, you know that every time I come home, the perfectly functioning car that I left behind has magically become a non-functioning vehicle. So rather than ask questions just to be disappointed, this time I just sold it. So I’m putting that money towards a new car. My aunt keeps telling me not to buy a new car cuz she doesn’t want me to have a car note, but she doesn’t know the anguish of having your cars run into the ground by someone other than yourself. I make enough money at home and while I’m at school to swag out a car note year round so I’m gonna just do it.

I’m a little superstitious but I will go ahead and jinx myself by saying that I plan on making the move to team iPhone. I’ll be paying my own bill, that’s why I mentioned being jinxed, cuz there’s a possibility that, with a car note, rent, and other miscellaneous expenses, I may not be able to bust that open. But I’ll just remain optimistic, I suppose.

You Haul, We Sit Back and Watch.

I wrote this (first part w/ picture) last night and did not post it.

I am waiting for a couple friends to come and get some of this food I made, so I figured I’d just write while I wait.

So I cooked a bunch of food today. I’ll post a little picture but that’s only some of the food I made. I cooked because I’m moving out on Tuesday night and I needed to get rid of the food. But I guess I made too much cuz everyone ate and ate and ate and I still have leftovers. I also have a big pot of coconut rice… More like a failed attempt at coconut rice. The only thing I’ve ever failed at cooking was gravy and that’s cuz that shit is hard to make. But honestly, me and rice have never really gotten along in the kitchen. I just needed to get rid of this giant can of coconut milk and my friend gave me a recipe for the rice but I forgot it and thought I could just swag it out on my own. I was wrong. Me and my friend ended up throwing it right out the window. She hit someone’s car. So what though. We have fun like that… sometimes.

Today was dedicated to Uhaul. My old roommate and I split the price on a storage unit. We took the train out to Uhaul, bought a van, drove it back to campus and packed all our stuff up then took it back and put it in storage; all by ourselves. We’re big kids now. We can get the Mighty Kids Meal… Whatever happened to the Might Kids Meal anyway? Well, McDonalds is the devil’s house so I don’t care really. I used my Cinco de Mayo journal entry to talk about Think Like A Man but there were several other events that transpired that I decided not to mention, hence me calling McDonalds the devil’s house.

After we were done at Uhaul, it was about 5pm but a friend of ours insisted that we go have frozen yogurt with her, so we did. We had time to take a shower and rest our feet, thank goodness. We smelled like farm animals after all that hard work. And I hope you aren’t one of those sexist people who think women can’t/shouldn’t do hard work… or smell like farm animals. There are probably a small handful of women who could realistically put in work the way we did today.

My exam is tomorrow and then I leave for DC at 4 in the morning on Wednesday morning. I’m sure I will have plenty to talk about after my cousin and I arrive in Atlanta. I got lots of goodies for the road trip too..*evil grin*

I ran out of leftovers today.

No sweat.

I’ve been getting the wig question for the past 3 days. But to everyone’s surprise, it’s not a wig. Just my thick, unruly hair. But I love it. And I love this new hairstyle I pulled together. It was a strange combination of several different hairstyles that I’ve had before. I was gonna dye it red but I waited too late to start and I got tired. But the next day when I went out into the sunlight, I noticed that the ends of my hair were red and blonde; it still hasn’t grown out yet from the last two times I dyed my hair. But I like it either way.

Today was cinco de mayo. My friend and I waited until the last minute to get sombreros but we were determined. It took us a cool 3 hours to finally get our hands on some but we got em. Then we got drunk of course. We were gonna go out tonight but I decided to go to the movies with some other friends. We saw Think Like A Man. I laughed the entire time. I was honestly expecting it to be one of those corny black romantic comedies. Sort of like that movie Jumping The Broom, or even worse, like a Tyler Perry movie. But it was much much better than that. Even though the whole damn movie was a giant promotion of Steve Harvey, his book, AND Family Feud (which I love), it was well put together. Predictable but not too predictable. And of course all those fine black men, especially Michael Ealy, made the movie that much better to watch. But Gabrielle Union was awful. I’m not sorry if that upsets anyone; she’s just the worst. Her character is pretty much always the same and she murders it every time. I really liked Taraji though. She still had that twang about her without having to be portrayed as the angry black woman throughout the whole movie. And watching her tonguing Mr. Ealy’s sexy ass made her role that much better. Kevin Hart never said one thing that wasn’t funny. As a comedian, he already had great acting skills, and obviously he’s been in movies before but this particular role was great for him. He was consistently funny and the movie rotated between the characters enough to where he could be funny in every scene without wearing it out; not that he would wear it out anyway but, you get the point. Meagan Good is growing as an actress. She honestly used to suck but she’s getting there. And she’s still bad as hell, of course. Her wardrobe was flawless in this movie. Let me stop before I do a whole movie review though.

Tests and deadlines are slowly approaching. I aint sweatin it.

au natural

I just bought my ticket to DC. Did you DC people get excited? Well, don’t be. I’ll only be there for a matter of minutes.. Then me and my cousin are road trippin it back to Atlanta. This works out nicely. I needed a cheap way to get myself and aaaalll of my shit back to atlanta and she needed someone to drive her through North Carolina (for reasons that will not be disclosed on tumblr lol). Minus how fucking exhausted i will probably be, i think it’ll be fun. Me and my cousin always have fun together..

Unfortunately, this won’t be taking place for another week. In the mean time, this big ass elephant in the room (a.k.a. this very important final next week) has been looming over my head like a rain cloud. I am not ill-prepared, it’s just that i cant bring myself to sit down and tie up the loose ends. My body literally will not let me study. It’s getting frustrating, but I’m gonna try again today. There are just so many other things to do though. I started packing yesterday and I actually made some notable progress, which I didn’t expect. I think it’s because it was night time. I’m very much nocturnal like my father.

I wana do my hair too. I am not down with the whole “everyone go natural” movement. I just haven’t taken the time to go get my hair done by a professional. People keep saying “don’t you do hair? why don’t you just do it yourself? do it yourself!” Well folks, thanks to all this money I’ve had to spend as of late, it looks like I have no choice. So i’m gonna go with a red dye and twist out. If it comes out looking fabulous (which my hair always does), I’ll post a picture for your viewing pleasure.
